So, you live in Next House? And you have tons of
recycleables? Well then. Let me show you how easy it is to
recycle. Take recycling. Put in appropriate bins. Repeat.
It's that easy.
The Next House Recycling Chair (currently Esther Hu) coordinates the
recycling program at the dorm, hiring student recyclers, contacting MIT Facilities (who
actually do a lot of different things at MIT) about recycling
pickups and other needs, and makes sure our house manager, Julie Gagnon, and our janitors are all
updated on what's going on in the dorm with the recylcling. Stephanie
will also send out reminder emails to the dorm, and listen to questions,
comments or concerns from the Next House community about recycling.
The student recyclers (hired by the Recycling Chair) collect the
recycling from all the bins and bring the recyling to the loading dock
outside Next House every week. Look for an email soon advertising the
student recycler jobs.
What you need to know:
What can be recycled:
// Paper in one bin
// Comingled materials in the other (plastic, metal,
glass)
More information about what can be recycled can be found through Facilities or from
reading the posters by the
large recycling bins
near the elevator. If you have any questions about what can be
recycled, please contact Esther.
Recycling bins are located in most of the lounges on floors 2-5, as well as
near the trash chute/elevators. If your lounge is lacking, let the
recycling chair know.
The small "room" with the glass door (looks like a phone booth) is the
Cardboard Closet. Please break down your boxes before putting them in
there, as that will help with space.
There are also small deskside recycling bins available for your room.
You can just keep all your recycling in your room until you decide to
dump it, instead of walking to the bins every time. There should be
some in the cardboard closets, but if there aren't any more, please
contact the Recycling Chair, and she'll request more.
