What is RBA?

As a freshman, you have several advising options: Freshman Advising Seminars, Traditional Advising (non-resident based advising based), Mission 2006, and Residence Based Advising. As an incoming freshman participating in RBA, you are pre-selected into your living group. Next House is one of the few dorms that offers Residence Based Advising, others include McCormick, German House and Random Hall. This year, all freshmen living at Next House will be participating in the program. This means that you will be part of an advising group where you live in the same dorm as your freshmen advising group and your associate advisors. This builds a stronger community and a friendlier atmosphere around the dorm.

We are current MIT undergraduates who all live at Next House. We range from sophomores to seniors who live in all parts of the dorm. We work with the Health Education Service, RLSLP (Residential Live and Student Living Programs Center) and the Academic Resource Center to provide various programs throughout the year.

Each residence based advisor sponsors one individual project and one group project (with the other associate advisors) per month. These projects have ranged from a good old fashioned Arm Rasslin' contest with prizes for the winners to monthly J&J Coffeehouse discussions to going out to Boston (Fanueil Hall, Museum of Fine Arts, Frog Pond). As RAA's we are given funding to provide food and outside sources to complement our programs.

What are the Benefits of RBA?

Anyone in the dorm is welcome to come by and talk to the Associate Advisors if they have any questions, concerns, problems etc. anytime of day/night. Our rooms are marked with Residence Based Advisor signs. We hope that our presence creates a welcoming and comfortable transition to college complemented by helpful and informative programs. The Residence Based Advising program is a valuable resource in our dorm and is just of the many assets that you can take advantage of by living at Next House.
