Rooming
Typical Froshman Triple
Freshman Triple, Complete with Typical Freshman

Unlike other dormitories, Next House gives you a room to live in. It's because we care like that. In general, freshmen live in triples, sophomores in doubles, and everyone else in singles. Rooms are chosen via the aptly titled Next House Housing Lottery which happens in the fall, IAP, and spring. During this process residents are randomly assigned ranks within their class which determine the order in which they get to chose their room. It is during this process that one can pair up with a roommate (or roommates, as the case may be).

Planned Dining Rennovation
The new Look of Dining

You probably know that Next House is one of only two dormitories on campus with a dining hall. You'll appreciate what this means when it's 7:30, you're starving to death, you ordered pizza the last four nights in a row and you have a hankering for meatloaf. Mmmm, meatloaf. (Veggieloaf available for our vegetarian friends!)

What you don't know is that Next Dining is going to be undergoing a multimillion dollar renovation this summer, just in time for y'all to get here! The renovation will transform a regular campus dining hall into an incredible salutary atmosphere which "conforms with nature." It will be beautiful, with bamboo floors and ceilings, sumptuous window treatments, a wholly redesigned servery with new equipment to make delicious food, a cyber cafe for studying or late night meetings and even a conference room with projection equipment. It will also be an air-conditioned room, which really makes a difference on those sweltering May and September evenings.

In short, Next House will have a one of a kind facility, brand new, and ready for your use. You're going to love what you see, and you're going to see what you love.

Facilities
Next House Lobby
Welcome to Next House

Next House is equipped with everything you will need to make your everyday lives as easy as possible. Our in-house dining hall serves meals for us five nights a week, a really huge convenience. Our weight room has much of the equipment necessary to maintain an active healthy lifestyle, including three brand new aerobic training machines. We also have a music room for a quiet place to practice, and an in-house laundry room for all your clothes-washing needs

If you like to cook, we have a fully equipped "country kitchen" for use of the residents, and if you like games we have two pool tables and a ping-pong table. Each floor also has two large lounges and eight bathrooms (yes they are coed, but don't worry; we have the most private bathrooms of anywhere on campus). Our desk also provides vacuums, sports equipment, and DVD rentals for your enjoyment. Just think of something you need - we got it!

The talent at Next is Amazing

Community is big here at Next House. We are a very close community of people who are laid back, easy going, and just like to have a good time. There are of course exceptions to every rule. From throwing random get togethers to just chilling while doing homework (or hanging from the ceiling ... ummm, ok) Next House is a great place for people who enjoy interacting with people and who like having fun in all parts of their lives.

Next is also very active in the MIT community as a whole. Four of the Tech's comic artists are Next House residents, and a large portion of each class's council comes from Next House. Other talent is abound at Next House as well, including a large number of Toons and other musically/artistically/athletically inclined people. The RBA program is also in effect to increase interaction between freshmen and upperclassmen, and so far is doing quite well. Community is important, and if you agree, Next House may be the place for you.

Government

Next House students are also actively involved in student government around the dorm. We have an Executive Committee (fondly referred to as ExecComm) that plans social events, allocates the budget, discusses matters that affect the dorm as a whole, (and eat food, of course!). ExecComm allows students a wonderful opportunity to get involved in what goes on in the dorm.

ExecComm has two main components, which operate under the auspices of the Next House Constitution and Bylaws. The first is the Executive Council, which is comprised of the President, Treasurer, Secretary, Housing Chair, Facilities Chair, Social Chair, Publicity Chair, and Judicial Chair. The second is the House Council, which consists of one representative from each of the dorm's eight wings. We encourage freshmen to get involved, as they are the ones that will be here to lead the dorm in the future.
