Next Act
Next Act 2001: Grease
Cast Photo, Next Act 2001

Do you like to sing or dance? Is acting your specialty? If so, you'll love being a part of Next Act, Next House's annual musical production, performed by students, for students. Each spring, residents get together and transform our main lounge into a mini theatre, complete with a stage and lights for the production. Recent shows have included Grease, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and this year's performance of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Some people sing, some people dance, others play in the pit orchestra. A good time is had by all.

Don't worry if you aren't a star performer either. Skill levels range from those who can barely hold a tune to those in a capella groups, to others from MIT's campus-wide production groups. Next Act is a learning experience and a great time spent hanging out with friends and meeting new ones. And then there's the final performance in April ... because you know you've always wanted to be the star of the show!

IM Sports
IM Hockey Game
Next 5E v 5W Hockey Game

From playing hockey at 11 on a February Thursday to hitting the turf to play some soccer on an October Saturday morning, Next House IM sports has it all. From the most competitive A and B leagues of Ultimate Frisbee, to D-league hockey, Next IM gives you the opportunity to compete, to have fun, and to just take a break from the problem sets, exams, and the rest of the "firehose" experience. Next House has multiple teams in sports that span the spectrum. Out of 380 students, it is easy to find people who share the same interests as you. We have teams in just about every IM sport at MIT. If you can't find one you want to play on, it is easy to captain your own. Next House IM is a great way to meet people on your wing, compete with other dorms and FSILG's, and just have a good time while breaking a sweat (yeah, Billiard's players sweat too.) Overall, if you love sports or just like to have fun competing, Next House IM sports gives you it all.

Ski Trip
Atop Sunday River
Skiing pauses for a quick pic

At Next House we never let a winter go by without a ski trip - subsidized by the dorm so it's mad cheap. We drive up to Maine in a tour bus, movies included, and spend the night in a ski lodge. This year we went to Sunday River, a really nice ski resort at the base of something crazy like five peaks. We spend the night hanging out and drinking orange juice, then in the morning we get up bright and early for a premium continental breakfast and a full day on the slopes (this year your humble narrator spent the morning learning to board and the afternoon on skis. Snowboarding? Yeah, been there, done that. And frankly, never doing that again!) Sunday River has an insane amount of trails and lifts, everything from bunny slopes to sheer drops that ought to be lethal, half pipes and moguls. When they finally kick us out we get another bus ride back with more movies and dinner. Overall lots of fun, lots of friends, few broken bones, no schoolwork involved, and an all around excellent time.
